The Kennet & Avon Canal is a marvel of engineering, lovingly restored to its former glory by the Kennet & Avon Canal Trust, which has successfully managed, over the last 40 years, to get the beautiful waterway navigable from Bristol all the way through to Reading in Berkshire.

Teaming with wildlife and stunning countryside, the Canal boasts some of the most beautiful scenery in the South West. Flanked by rich countryside, and very welcome attractions such as traditional pubs and market towns, a walk, or if you’re lucky enough, a barge trip along the Canal is a memorable and relaxing source of entertainment.

A huge investment has been made in the engineering infrastructure, and the locks are largely maintained in a good and sound state of repair. It’s difficult to identify just how much pleasure can be gained from traveling and exploring along this waterway – watching time slide by at an almost unbelievably tranquil pace.
