KAM IT Consultancy
Unix ConsultancyWe have experience with Unix spanning more than two decades. During that time we have worked on many versions of the universally accepted Open Systems Whether it's kernel rebuilds, machine configuration, performance analysis using tools such as SAR, addition of new or different peripherals of just general housekeeping, we have solid experienced consultants who are equipped to tackle your requirements. We have extensive scripting skills, and are very adept with data manipulation tools such as awk and sed - skills which allow us to complement and enhance our SQL flexibility when dealing with very large files during data migration and manipulation exercises. Security and access control are another strong point, and we even provide consultancy in terms of data and file integrity control, including configuration management.
Project ManagementKAM can offer a range of Programme and Project Management services, providing individual Programme and Project Managers - all PRINCE 2 practitioners - or teams of two or more depending upon the size and complexity of the programme or project. At home with projects ranging from a number of days, to large scale programmes spanning many years in some instances, our consultants can work within your own scope and constraints, be it by traditional means, or via formalised structured methods such as PRINCE 2. All our practitioners are versed in all aspects of the full project life cycle, from inception and business case definition, through project mandates and budgetary planning, identification of the project and formal assignment of a recognisable identity, into the planning stages of the project proper. Detailed project planning is our forte, whether the scope involves business or facilities goals and objectives, or alternatively, IT Development or Infrastructure mandates. Well thought out communications planning, and contingency and exit strategies always accompany the core project milestones and deliverables. Careful consideration to project products and deliverables allow accurate means of measurement. Stage management can be offered on larger projects if required. All project managers are versed in regular results analysis and reporting, with Issue and Risk logging being a standard part of the service. All our project managers are competent and comfortable communicators, whether in liaison with clients, attendance at review and committee meetings, or in presentations and public address. We have experience in leading both contract and permanent staff, and have worked with 3 rd party Companies in the combined submission and supply of services, often managing third party teams if necessary. Our mission is simple - the delivery of projects, on time, and to budget.
Business AnalysisKAM provide Business Analysis skills, on an individual or team basis, depending upon project scope. We undertake any size of project, from a few days, to projects spanning several years. Our Business Analysts are all experienced database and systems designers We specialise in feasibility studies, and evaluating whether business benefits will outweigh the costs of undertaking a particular project. ROI, Return On Investment is a critical objective in any solution we might put forward. The skills embrace all the usual business analysis components, such as requirements analysis, documentation etc. Business Process Reengineering (BPR) is another area of specialisation. With the progress of technology, increasingly, businesses already have solutions in place, and a full re-evaluation of goals and objectives, often coupled with analysis and review of existing operational procedures and practices, is a frequent requirement, and cost effective way of keeping the Company at the leading edge. We employ traditional methods - based upon years of experience, but offer services using structured methods and techniques, with the use of Case Tools and formal methodologies where appropriate or requested. Examples might be RUP, UML etc.
Systems AnalysisKAM complement other areas of the IT Development portfolio with seasoned Systems Analysis and Design consultancy. Our experienced analysts work, whether following through themselves, or picking up from one of our Business Analysts from Logical Design documentation and proposals to design and build the Physical Design that will become the completed system. We work with traditional skills, honed from years of experience, or can employ structured techniques and methodologies such as SSADM and JSD, Jackson's System Design methodology. Our design documentation is comprehensive enough that we have driven third party programming development teams, with our specifications referring to table and column names, and suggesting navigation paths and routes through database tables to access the data required to support the applications being described and developed. The specifications are detailed enough that they can be used as the foundation for subsequent test planning scripts, clearly demonstrating expected results and requirements from the software at a program or module level.
Data ManagementDATABASE DESIGN Complementing our System Designers are our database specialists. These RDBMS Consultants can work individually, or as a team. We offer comprehensive design and performance based expertise in anything from a We have skills in the market-leading SQL based Engines such as Oracle, Sybase, Informix and SQL-Server, and with some of the equally popular but smaller end tools such as Access, Paradox, SQLAnywhere etc - often taking applications developed using the latter toolsets and hooking them into the larger Engines to allow fast application development in distributed environments for analysis of data in Warehouses supported by the bigger tool suppliers. We offer performance tuning advice, and design expertise and consultancy on indexing etc. Also tuning guidance and administration of the larger Engines in terms of Physical and Logical Transaction logging, checkpoints, page cleaning etc... Our heritage in the Software Development arena means our skills extend outside the SQL based databases to traditional older generation environments supporting applications written in tools such as Cobol, Ideal, Datacom and Dataflex. SIZING & CAPACITY PLANNING To complement the design skills, we provide consultancy services for Sizing and Capacity planning - working with the Business and Systems Analysis teams to establish volumetrics and transaction flows.
ProjectsKAM are able to offer a service that encompasses all elements of the complete software project life cycle. From initial feasibility study and business analysis, through the systems analysis and design, both of the application and also of the supporting database, subsequent programming, systems and database administration, operating system configuration Any or all of the skills available can be called upon in isolation or in combinations of disciplines as required. For instance, you may need a Project Manager to coordinate and manage your own development staff in a particular area of development. Or a Business Analyst - perhaps you need the feasibility study done to contribute to your budget forecasts for a project scheduled for a later date. Perhaps you need a Team Leader to drive your programmers, or an experienced DBA to come and sort your RDBMS Engine out - some specialist performance tuning. A whole development solution - under one roof.
